I just found this on Craigslist for $1200 obo.
‘83 Celica GTS, runs and drives, 5 speed, very little rust. Says it needs some work to be a reliable daily, but find me a 35 year old car that doesn’t.
The guy got back to me already, he’s going to text me more pictures today...which means I need to get the Land Cruiser ready to pull a trailer if it’s anything other than a total rat’s nest inside.

I’ve bought way worse for $1200. If it looks anything close to the pictures close up, I can’t find a reason not to buy that if you have the money.

I see no problem.
I promise there’s hatch rust, check behind the rear wheels too.

I’d honestly be shocked if there wasn’t a fair amount of rust. The guy said very little for the year, which is fine for me...my Land Cruiser has a little rust, builds character.

Doesn’t provide much beyond my description, haha.

Nah, just the one. I’ll follow up with any pictures he sends me today though.

Same. I’ve bought worse for twice that price.

The 3rd gen Celica GTS is one of the most overlooked entry level RWD chassis in my opinion. Sure the 22RE isn’t a powerhouse, but it’s a RWD sporty chassis with IRS, with bolt-in LSD options, and there is suspension available from the CelicaSupra of the same vintage. Why aren’t more people hooning these?

I like the thing, great looking and has a lot going for it. I’ve always wanted a Supra of this vintage, but a Celica GTS is really close enough for me...I don’t need to make a lot of power, but I’d still keep an eye out for interesting swaps eventually.

Try and look for an 84-85 though. The 83 and earlier have super ugly flip forward headlights
Whereas the 84-85 is a cleaner front

Those wheels are worth more than half the asking price.

I do like the 84-85 nose better, but I’m sure I can do something with the nose on this one to make it more palatable...they’re hard to find in good shape in New England, so I have a little bit of a tough time being picky about the year.

That sounds like a solution, not a problem

A solution for the problem of what to do with my year end work bonus, yeah.

My guess is rust and relative rarity
